If we took every person who abused a child, on their first offense, and we threw them into a volcano live on TV, do you really think that the abuse would stop ? My feeling is that it might very well increase. We have no way to know how society will react when we adjust the severity of punishment. Face it. There has been pedophilia and child abuse for thousands of years, and its not very likely that we can ever wipe it out completely.
